Update from Jonny

Posted: June 19, 2010 in Uncategorized

Hey everyone, sorry that there was such a big hiatus: Life has a way of throwing a wrench in the cogs, right? In any case, I wanted to add my own little update while Bill is doing these awesome posts. I am probably not going to be offering as much as Bill in terms of posting but when I do, I want you to know that I plan on making it something fun and exciting.

But here is a quick update on what is going on regarding Bloody-Disgusting: There have been more album reviews than I can shake a leg at, so instead of doing a link for each one, I’ll just give you THIS LINK HERE where you can see a full list of the album reviews in the Bloody-Disgusting music section.

I’ve also done quite a few interviews with some badass musicians. To name a few, I spoke with Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit, Paul Phillips of Puddle of Mudd, Ronan Harris of VNV Nation and more. All of these, and more, can be viewed HERE.

There are also a lot of things going on with B-D behind the curtains, so to speak. While I can’t say what they are right now, if/when they do happen, I’ll make sure to at least post a little blurb or link with more information.

Now, I don’t want you all to think that I’ve lost the drive or the commitment to this blog because of the craziness with Bloody-Disgusting. However, priorities are priorities and I’ll do what I can. But know this: I’m going to try and be involved with every post that Bill does, even if it’s just chatting with him over the phone about it or reading his posts before they’re put up. He and I are tight like that.

Lastly, I want to leave you with a little message from a soothing, yet commanding, voice:

I have been in a very free spirited, ragin (in a good way) kinda mood lately. So, due to my mood, I have been what the youngins call “rocking out” on my drives to work or wherever else I may be going.  So i figured  I would pass along my Top 5 favorite songs to just go crazy to. Put these on and have fun. Just dont do anything illegal.

1. THE HAUNTED – Little Cage  (Very angry song with an awesome message, one of the best vocalists in metal gets you amped all throughout this track)

2. IN FLAMES – Dead End (Great, soothing female vocals that give you a sense of calm, until the lead singer, who is male, comes through and tears you a new one)

3.  ALICE IN CHAINS  –  A Looking In View (Real angry track by my favorite band. From the opening drum beat, your ready to fight)

4. METALLICA –  Shortest Straw ( Amazing opening druming gets you amped. Fast paced, balls to the wall is perfect to pound your steering wheel as you drive down the highway going 90)

5. PANTERA – Walk (Opening guitar riff prepares you for carnage. Vocals by Anselmo are some of his best. You feel his agitation.)

First Look: Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

Posted: June 18, 2010 in Videogames

Well folks, Bill here and it’s about that time of year. My favorite time of year, and no, I do not mean summer. I am talking E3 here people!! The new year of gaming has begun. Now with E3 pretty much wrapped up at this point, I am going to do a little first look special on one of my most anticipated titles from the show floor, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 : Fate of Two Worlds. This game is going to be available to both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 owners in the spring of 2011. First gameplay footage was shown this past tuesday at E3. For those of you who dont know, E3 is a national convention held in California yearly, displaying the newest hardware and software of the gaming world. It’s a geeks new years eve. Hence my love for it! Moving along, MVC 3 has my palms sweaty, my blood pumping, and my stomach twisting in excitement for the Spring of 2011.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was released in the spring of 2000. This action packed fighting game had fighting fans screaming for more the minute it was released, but alas it was not to be. Fans have waited 10 years for this time and they finally got their wish. This MVC 3 promises the fans more of what they love, with 3-v-3 tag battles, spectacular super combos, fast paced, balls to the wall action, and your favorite characters from Marvel and Capcom. So far, 10 characters have been formally announced. From the Marvel side we have the returning stars of Wolverine, Captain America, Hulk, and Iron Man. New to the Marvel team thus far is Deadpool, a humorous but not to be taken lightly swordsman that can also pack quite a punch with his guns and explosives. Think of him as a jack of all trades mercenary, with an amazing sense of humor. On the Capcom Side of things we have the returning cast of Ryu, Morrigan, and Felicia. Capcom has also added two characters, which have so far intrigued me the most. There names are Dante, from the Devil May Cry series, and Chris Redfield from the Resident Evil Franchise. Dante is very reminiscent of Deadpool but with a very supernatural addition. Chris is a no-nonsense, gun toting , zombie killing machine. He packs alot of firepower and he knows how to use it.

Given the above information, some interesting news was released today. This information is to be taken with a grain of salt, but it seems as though Capcom accidentally released the full roster a year early! Now, once again this is purely speculation at this point but this is what is out there.

Marvel: Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Mr Fantastic, Captain America, Iron Man, War Machine (alternate Iron Man outfit) Elektra, Thor, X-23, Magneto, Dr Doom, Shuma-Gorath, Emma Frost, Deadpool, Super Skrull, Taskmaster, Juggernaut, She-Hulk

Capcom: Ryu, Mike Haggar, Frank West, Chuck (alternate Frank West outfit), Spencer (Bionic Commando), Dante, Chris, Morrigan, Arthur, Amaterasu , Albert Wesker, Zero, Chun-li, Viewtiful Joe, Trish, Tron Bonne, Hsien-Ko, Akuma, Felicia

I personally hope this is false, as there are some key characters I want to see added to this game (PUNISHER!!!) but none the less this has been floating out there due to a leak on Capcom’s site. Either way I am stoked for this game and if you are a veteran of the fighting genre or are looking to pick one up for the first time, I would recommend picking up MVC 2. Then, I guarantee, you WILL buy MVC 3 when it is released. I leave you with the newest trailer of the game and some action packed game play footage to get your saliva glands working! BERSERKER BARRAGE!!

Here are a few covers that I think are just astounding:

1) With or Without You – Espen Lind, Kurt Nilsen, Alejandro Fuentes and Askil Holm

2) Hey Ya – Obadiah Parker

What do you think? Any other suggestions that you guys might have? If so, post them in the comments and we’ll see if we can add them to the list!

Some upcoming concerts

Posted: January 27, 2010 in Music

Hey all! Jonny here to tell you about some concerts coming up that I’m gonna be attending (gonna do some interviews backstage, hang out with the crowd afterwards, etc…).

1) Crud at the Magic Stick, Feb. 13th. These guys are a lot of fun to see live. They interact with the crowd, they interact with each other and there is a definite “Grindhouse” burlesque feel to their show. Check ’em out on YouTube and then I hope you can make it out!

2) Killswitch Engage w/The Devil Wears Prada and Dark Tranquillity at the Royal Oak Music Theater, Feb. 20th. I’m gonna to do an interview with Mike Stanne, the singer of Dark Tranquillity for Bloody-Disgusting. While I’m there, I’m gonna try and interview some of the guys from TDWP and KSE to see how the tour is going, how the new year and the new decade is going for them and what they hope the future holds for them. Keep an eye out for that.

There might be some other concerts in the works. I’ll let you know as I get the information.

Got to put this out there…

So, I was reading my digital edition of Guitar Edge and there was an article about an Australian band called Karnivool. The article grabbed me in their descriptions and comparisons of the band, from Porcupine Tree to Tool. Intrigued, I went to their website to hear some of their music and I was floored. These guys are a mix of the bands mentioned above but also throw in some Muse and Mars Volta but understand that the sound is completely original. These guys are really incredible and I highly recommend them. Count me in for the April 10th show at The Machine Shop in Flint.

Hope you check them out and enjoy!
